Yes, it’s official! Steve Gadd will be here in December, and fans all over the country will be in a state of high anticipation for seeing the most famous drummer alive, in person! Steve Gadd is a man that truly needs no introduction – particularly within the drumming community and ultimately with musicians all over the world who recognise his genius and immense contribution to music history.

Steve turned 70 last year, and there is no sign of any intention to slow down or retire. He continues to tour extensively with James Taylor and is still first call for Eric Clapton and Paul Simon when available. More recently Steve has been writing and touring with his own STEVE GADD BAND. Featuring the familiar talents of Michael Landau-guitar, Jimmy Johnson-bass, Walt Fowler-flugelhorn and Kevin Hays-keyboards – The Steve Gadd Band has enjoyed great success - both recording and touring their own material as well as just allowing audiences the opportunity to see one of the best line–ups you will ever witness live in concert!

Frank Corniola, Managing Director and owner of Drumtek and DRUMscene, talks about the opportunity to tour the Steve Gadd Band;

“Being a lifelong fan and, like many of my peers, having grown up with the influence of Steve Gadd, it’s been a dream of mine to work with Steve. Now with the opportunity to bring this drumming legend to Australia to perform in a context that his Australian fans have never seen him - with his own band performing many of their own compositions - this is just a rare and incredible once in a lifetime experience that will be enjoyed by drummers and musicians from all around the country.”

The recent release by The Steve Gadd Band of ‘Way Back Home’, Live from Rochester, New York - affords fans the chance to own a collectable double DVD set, featuring the concert and a second DVD of exclusive interviews! The accompanying CD of 8 selected tracks celebrates the band and Steve’s 70th birthday, live! In front of an audience in Steve’s hometown, another piece of history is made during this unforgettable live concert.

Soon Steve and The Steve Gadd Band will be in Australia, performing in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for a series of exclusive live shows across the east coast. It’s a rare chance to see Steve up close and personal and playing at the top of his game after seven decades of performing.

Steve Gadd Documentary:

Steve on the band;

“This band has been working together with James for many years and my wife Carol and Walt’s wife Michele came up with the idea that we should do a project together – because we love playing and hanging out together so much!”

Steve continues;

“I’ve done a lot of recording with Michael Landau over the years. I first met him doing recording sessions in LA and then we’ve been touring together with James for quite a few years. Jimmy Johnson is the same, I met him when I was playing with James and we’ve been touring together doing that gig for about 15 years now. Walt Fowler is a great trumpet player and arranger and comes from a very musical family – I met him on James’ gig also - plus Larry Goldings did the recordings, but is not on this tour to Australia, Kevin Hays is going to take his place. We’re all looking forward to playing with Kevin. We don’t have a history together, but I’ve heard his stuff and we’re going to make a new friend and I’m really excited about it.”

The band members;

Kevin Hays (keyboards)

Joining the Steve Gadd band for this tour is Kevin Hays. He’s internationally recognized as one of the premier Jazz pianists of his generation. Many of his 15 recordings as leader have received critical acclaim from publications such as The New York Times, Downbeat Magazine and Jazz Times, as well as a “Coup de Coeur” from the Académie Charles Cros (France). A prolific sideman appearing on over 60 records, Kevin’s long list of notable musical associations include records with Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Nicholas Payton, and Al Foster.

2011’s Modern Music (Nonesuch), a piano duo collaboration with Brad Mehldau and composer Patrick Zimmerli, garnered widespread critical acclaim. The duo premiered several works at Carnegie Hall, and has toured throughout the US, Europe, and South America.
